Week 8 Final Blog Post

This project has been very useful learning how to apply entrepreneurial ideas and merging it with the class content. It forced students to project and apply what they learned in class and I enjoyed this because it helped me to understand even further the real life applications of a data base or the importance of a foreign key. My idea has morphed from a simple thought to a well planned out company. Beatzburne is a social media profile that introduces users to new artists, songs, and albums through the suggestions from followers and friends. Once users create an account they provide different playlists to give followers and friends a sense for what kind of music they are into. From there, followers and friends can suggest musical albums and songs for users to listen to. BeatzBurne also allows bands to create profiles as a way to communicate with fans through the internet.
The way my idea has developed is from a simple concept into an in depth operation. The way I started this project I figured I would need a certain amount of hardware, but by the end of the project I have learned specifically what kinds of hardware I would need. For example I will need multiple servers to ensure traffic is smooth and speedy on the web. The programs BeatzBurne will be using are Final Cut Pro X (for music video editing) and The Creative Suite 5.5 Design System issued by Adobe (to edit concert images, band interviews, band photo shoots, and used to advertise the website in an attractive, refreshing image). In the beginning of my entrepreneurial venture I did not know what kind of files the music would be featured on. But by the time we learned about .wav and MP3 files I realized that MP3 files would be a much better use of storage for the music files than .wav. My idea also greatly evolved with the introduction of RFID tags. Originally I thought that BeatzBurne would only be a website, but when RFID tags were introduced I thought it might be a good idea to make a physical store out of BeatzBurne. This would increase our revenue because it is not just an online entity but a physical place where even more people can know about the website. With the physical store for BeatzBurne, the company has the ability to let users meet in a common place and bond over the website as well as having the possibility for paid Meet-and-Greet passes to meet the users' favorite bands. If I did not know about RFID tags I do not think I would have thought up the idea to make BeatzBurne a retail store. My idea has become more complex with the addition of security and monitoring people's safety. BeatzBurne offers the ability to have friends (people the users know in real life) and followers (people who have similar musical interests but the users do not actually know each other). BeatzBurne allows the unique ability to choose whether or not a user can contact you on video chat or text chat the minute the friend request is sent. If we did not discuss the lack of security on FaceBook I probably would not have come up with the idea to make BeatzBurne such a security intensive website. My idea has blossomed from a well thought out concept into a functioning business. With the knowledge of servers, databases to organize data, and what type of hardware will be used, BeatzBurne has the ability to evolve into a real business.
I think that this project should be continued to be used throughout the course because it forces students to learn and comprehend complex terms because they are putting them into their entrepreneurial ideas. Also, for those students who do hope to launch their own powerhouse website or hope to do entrepreneurial ventures with the internet this project would prove incredibly advantageous.

Week 7 Domain Names

During our second lecture of week 8 we talked a lot about domain names on the internet. It is imperative for a website to buy out all other variations of their domain name to ensure that other websites are not associating the company with filth. For example the website for BeatzBurne would be www.beatzburne.com but BeatzBurne would also be obligated to purchase .info, .net, .biz, etc, so that way other individuals do not create a separate BeatzBurne website that focuses on negative things such as porn. BeatzBurne would use .com because it is easier for frequent internet users to remember. Americans and other users around the world are very used to typing the company's name followed by a .com to find the website. If we used .info or .biz, which are both unrestricted domain names, most people would not find the website. However, if BeatzBurne was to buy .info and .biz we could redirect the website to www.beatzburne.com instead for those who typed in the wrong domain name to begin with.
Dealing with domain names can be tricky as we have learned in class, but with the advantage of WIPO it will be easier to keep predators away from destroying the good name of my company. However, if internet users decide to attack the company and buy, for example, www.beatzburne.pro it would cost 1.5k for one panelist at WIPO to review the case and 3k for three panelists to review the case. I think by the time BeatzBurne really reaches its full potential, IPv6 will be in use. Which is definitely an advantage because not only will it allow more devices to access the internet at one point in time, but also IPv6 has already been built into computers everywhere so the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 will be easy.
In order to buy www.beatzburne.com (our main website) and www.beatzburne.info, www.beatzburne.biz, www.beatzburne.net, www.beatzburne.org (to protect the integrity of the BeatzBurne name) the company would need to contact ICANN. ICANN is responsible for overseeing domain names and they distribute domain names.

Week 6- Famous Blogger

The famous blogger I would like to cover for this unit is Yanik Silver. Silver's story is one of ingenuity and persistence. Starting with just a couple hundred dollars in his one bed-room apartment he was able to make over $13,000,000,000 with his only business partner being his wife. Yanik is the author, co-author, and publisher of several popular entrepreneurial books including his most popular, "Moonlighting on the Internet". Yanik's blog is focused on combining his adrenaline seeking personality with his business associate view of life to create Maverick Business Adventures. He completely believes that by subjecting oneself to extreme conditions such as sky-diving or floating in zero gravity, as he has done in the past,  that individuals will concoct incredibly forward thinking motives towards the business work place. The adrenaline pumping through one's veins is stimulating for business, Yanik believes.

Many of his blogs detail the struggles of the entrepreneurship world. His latest blog featured on, http://www.internetlifestyle.com/blog/, talks about how his trainer had an idea to create a workout video for brides to get into shape before their wedding day. However when the trainer went to a small exhibit at a bridal expo only two or three copies were purchased. After a year had passed Yanik convinced his trainer to try again, this time the DVD was focused on a tough trainer who allows no excuses to slack off, however this project failed as well. The series of events that happened to his trainer gave Yanik the idea to create a new business model titled the "Cash on Tap System". He explains that many people go through the trial of creating a blog or entrepreneurial idea only to have it fail or have about one or two comments for every three posts. The one thing that gets people motivated is stimulation and response to their blog. When the author of a blog notices that people are listening and responding to their material, the author feels empowered and as though they are making an impact. What people need is motivation to create a project and when response is given, it is like "fuel to a rocketship", Yanik explains. However, the individual needs to find the right idea that sparks with an audience. Unless that idea is ideal to others, it will not ignite.

Week 5- Bits and Bytes

The Beatzburne website will feature only MP3 files on its website as wav files will take up too much storage. A wav file is the raw version of the song, meaning it is uncompressed audio. An MP3 is compressed audio which has eliminated all the frequencies a normal human ear cannot hear. Using MP3 files compared to wav files on the website is incredibly beneficial for traffic and speed. The website will be much faster to load if people are only uploading smaller files. When users are making their playlists, they do not have to worry about the tedious, time consuming, activity that is uploading a wav file. Although a wav file does sound better because it is the full version of the audio, most individuals cannot decipher the difference. By uploading mp3 files the website will work at a much faster rate and there will be more memory to spare between users. A wav file is essentially useless in most aspects because the average human cannot hear the added frequencies, thus using MP3 files saves more time and memory for users.
On the Beatzburne website unicode will be featured, with over 100,000 characters for different languages. This is advantageous because members of Beatzburne from all across the world can connect with one another through music. Also, if a person is multi-lingual or interested in artists speaking other languages than English, they can listen to this music as well. Using unicode on Beatzburne opens the market up to the entire WORLD to unite over musical interest. For example, if an American who can speak German is interested in the band Ramstein, they can connect with other German speaking people from around the world about the band. Also if an individual is from Cuba and they moved to the United States but still have relatives from home listening to Spanish speaking music the two individuals can continue their relationship through their musical interests and see what each individual is listening to.

Week Four- Input and Output

RFID tags hold a much better value than barcodes in the world of music. Beatzburne has aspirations to turn into a physical store, selling band t-shirts, cd albums, vinyl albums, and much more music related items. When consumers come into the Beatzburne store RFID chips will be used on every item to make sure if the item is in stock, where it is located in the store, how much the item costs, and when it will be on sale. RFID tags on the items will make the customer's experience much more enjoyable as it will make navigating the store much easier, purchasing will be much faster, and knowledge of stock will be easier to access. Barcodes are becoming outdated as it needs a clear line of site to be scanned. RFID tags on the other hand will make the buying experience much faster because the line of site is not required to scan. The RFID tags used would be passive. Although this technology is still in its infancy and it is not entirely secure, the Beatzburne store will not be available for another few years. By this time RFID tags are assumed to be developed and secure for the costumer buying process.
At the Beatzburne store, fans will also be able to print out their favorite concert photo for a price. The fan will have to know the resolution of the photo to know the maximum print size. The printer being used is three hundred dots per inch (DPI) which means the quality and crispness of the image will be improved. Although at 200 DPI the photo can be blown up to be a larger image, Beatzburne believes that quality matters more than the size of the image.
Once Beatzburne is developed the usage of Google Wallet will have revolutionized the buying experience. Beatzburne will accept both credit cards and Google Wallet at the store. With the combined efforts of Google Wallet and RFID tags the line at the cashier will be virtually nothing!
QR codes will also be located at concert events and festivals attached with Beatzburne specials and promotionals located at the store.
The Beatzburne  store aspires to be a new-wave, higher technology, retail store. With the usage of QR codes for discounts at the store, RFID tags to make buying easier, a photo center to print out images, and accepting Google Wallet users, the Beatzburne buying experience will be like no other!

Week Three- Hardware involved with Beatzburne

Beatzburne aspires to evolve into an exceptionally popular social media website. This will require hardware to support such heavy internet traffic. In Beatzburne's modest and beginning stages less servers will be needed to mediate the flow of traffic. However once Beatzburne launches as a powerhouse media sharing website, more servers will be needed. The Beatzburne team may need to incorporate data centers, which are thousands of computer servers connected through fiber optic cables in its peak of popularity.
The RAM on a computer will not need to be considerably high to have access to Beatzburne because it requires mere internet access. If consumers want their internet experience to be moving rapidly users may look have a better experience on computers with a higher amount of RAM since more RAM means more speed. SGI servers will be a necessity for Beatzburne as it will house all the information of  billions of songs, lyrics, videos photos, and blogs being posted onto the website. Concert photographs, streaming videos, and music files take up more memory space than a typical blog or song lyrics do, so more RAM would be required to support this. As more information is being posted onto the website, there will need to be a backup of all user info being stored. In order to have an updated, modern looking page, professional photography and video editing programs will be needed to keep the site looking fresh. Beatzburne will be using the best graphic design systems to date by having access to Adobe Photoshop. The Creative Suite 5.5 Design System issued by Adobe will be used to edit concert images, band interviews, band photo shoots, and used to advertise the website in an attractive, refreshing image. The Creative Suite 5.5 also has access to interactive programs that will attract user attention as well. Another editing software that Beatzburne employees will be tinkering with to advertise, as well as cater, to potential and existing users is Final Cut Pro X. This program will be used to edit concert footage, make montages of interviews between bands, and also music videos.
The Huffington Post reported on Thursday in its article, Facebook Music in Ticker: Listen with your Friends that "Facebook has partnered with streaming services like Spotify and Rdio to let users discover new song as their friends are listening to them." This would offer Beatzburne a great deal of competition, especially considering that Facebook has been deemed the most visited website on the Internet. However, this music feature will be displayed on Facebook's much disputed ticker device. The ticker has been attacked by Facebook users everywhere saying that it breaks a law of privacy by updating status's each second. The Huffington Post explains that "If a friend plays 'Titanium' by David Guetta on spotify, you'll see that update in your ticker". I feel that this is an invasion of privacy. When a user is not even logged on to Facebook, their Facebook is being updated via a completely different website? That does not sit well with me.
Beatzburne will have a completely secure website that will not display user information without the user's consent.

Week Two- Privacy in Social Media on BeatzBurne

Privacy in social media is a substantial factor for BeatzBurne users. With video chat, blog forums, and instant messaging being featured on the website, it can be easy for users to offer out too much information. To ensure that our affiliates are blogging safely BeatzBurne offers the feature to categorize individuals as followers or friends as soon as a request is sent. If the member knows the person sending the request outside of the internet and feels comfortable offering personal information, chatting, and blogging with this person, they are defined as a friend. If the member  does not know the person sending the request but feels comfortable sharing music files with one another, they are categorized as a follower.  A friend has access to video chat, instant messaging, and personal information about the user such as what tour dates they have attended. A follower is merely someone who enjoys the same music as another user and would like to share files together. When sending a friend request the user must answer two personal questions about the member they are requesting to be friends with to make sure that the user truly does know this individual. Questions can range from "Where is this user originally from?" to "What are this user's hobbies?" These are simple questions that a friend should have knowledge of. We ask users to choose carefully when categorizing friend/follower requests because there is such a vast difference in the amount of information a friend can obtain versus a follower. An affiliate can always delete someone as a friend or follower if they feel the need to do so.
All BeatzBurne profiles are initially private. Users who are not followers or friends can only see another member's top five favorite bands and latest three songs they have posted. From there users can decide whether or not they find another member's taste intriguing or not. To secure personal information from being shared too freely, BeatzBurne recommends that users have a profile picture of their favorite artist instead of a personal image. Members also have the ability to block or report other users if they feel threatened for any reason. BeatzBurne asks users to provide the website with their current address, that way BeatzBurne can suggest local concerts or shows the member might be interested in, however it is not a requirement and affiliates to not need to give this information. The same privacy options are available for bands as well. If bands do not want to allow fans to message, video chat, or blog with the group, they can block this option in their settings.
An advantageous feature to BeatzBurne is the ability to create a public or private blog. If a member does choose to make a public blog BeatzBurne asks users to blog tastefully. If users decide to create a private blog, they invite other members to view the post and anyone who was not invited cannot observe the writings. Bands and music lovers alike also have the choice to allow comments to be posted on their private or public blogs. This ensures that blogs are being written are examined by an audience that the author feels comfortable. Authors of blogs can also tag different users in the writings to notify other members about what they are blogging. Authors can only tag friends in their writings and only the writer of the blog can view who has been tagged in the post. Other users cannot sees who has been tagged.
The privacy settings on BeatzBurne are completely customizable which allows our affiliates to decide for themselves what information is shared online and who can view this information. All of these settings available on BeatzBurne allows users to have a personalized profile that is safely shared and completely customizable.
